New Mexico Behavioral Health Training Associates (NMBHTA) is a group of local behavioral health experts dedicated to strengthening care across our state. Our mission is simple: support clinicians with practical, evidence-based training that reflects both national best practices and the unique realities of working in New Mexico.
We offer high-quality continuing education through live Zoom webinars and on-demand recordings, all developed with cultural relevance and clinical utility in mind. Our associates aren't just voices on a screen—they're local professionals who understand your work, your clients, and your community. Most are available for follow-up questions, specialized clinical consultation, or even in-person custom trainings upon request.

Evelyn received her BA from the University of Notre Dame and her PhD in clinical psychology from Stony Brook University (previously SUNY Stony Brook) and is board-certified in clinical psychology. She served as a Training Director for doctoral psychology internships and postdoctoral fellowships in a national healthcare system and now has a psychotherapy and consultation practice in Albuquerque - evelynsandeen.com. Evelyn has published in the areas of case conceptualization, cultural competence, and clinical supervision. Clinically, she has extensive experience with psychological trauma, substance-use disorders, personality disorders, and anxiety disorders.
Evelyn has lived in New Mexico for 30 years and loves the state and its people. She established NMBHTA alongside Michelle Ball to offer high-quality continuing education to local providers, facilitated by local experts committed to New Mexico. Evelyn herself is happy to answer questions and hear suggestions regarding any topic related to continuing education.

Michelle Ball is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker currently practicing in the Albuquerque area. She received her BA in Psychology from the University of La Verne and her MSSW from the University of Texas with a clinical concentration. She has worked in myriad settings as a social worker including outpatient, primary care, inpatient psychiatry, residential, medical, and educational sites as well as with an array of populations ranging from children and adolescents to veterans and the geriatric population.
Michelle grew up in rural Northern New Mexico and has lived most of her life in the state. She has immense respect for the land, culture and peoples of New Mexico and is dedicated to delivering quality care in our unique setting within the Southwest. She is passionate about behavioral health clinicians feeling informed, prepared, and supported when entering their practice. This passion was the catalyst in the co-creation of New Mexico Behavioral Health Training Associates with her mentor and co-founder Dr. Evelyn Sandeen.

Why become an associate? We believe that becoming an associate and joining in NMBHTA’s mission of improving the behavioral health of New Mexicans through teaching current and relevant CE classes can be fun and rewarding in itself!
Additionally, associates will become part of a network of local experts whose practices can benefit from exposure through our forum. NMBHTA will cover the cost of advertising and CE administration, and associates will be paid a portion of all income earned through their contributions. Associates can provide greater or fewer hours of CE at their discretion. Additionally, NMBHTA will serve as a speakers’ bureau and connect interested associates with inquiries for speakers for private or corporate events.
